The Most Instagrammable Places in Winona
IThe Most Instagrammable Places in Winona The Most Instagrammable Places in Winona
My jaw-dropped as I drove into Winona. I could not believe the towering river bluffs before my eyes. When I think of Minnesota, I think of flat farmlands. And while I love my hometown of Saint Peter….those flat landscapes get a bit dull. And the only hiking trails nearby have zero elevation gain.
So one glimpse at Winona, I knew I’d not only have an unforgettable trips but also take some awesome photos. How can you not with all those river bluff view points? If you’re into photography or you are an Instagrammer/blogger- these are the spots you can’t miss.
In no particular order, here the most Instagrammable places in Winona, Minnesota!
Sugar Loaf Bluff
This is an easy hike with a great reward at the end!
Just park at the Sugar Loaf Bluff trailhead and follow the signs.
Great River Bluffs Campground
This campsite is stunning. With so many great hiking trails and lookout points over the Mississippi River, you’ll be stopping every couple of minutes to take a photo!
I can’t recommend highly enough, especially if you enjoy taking photos.

King’s Bluff
This is my favorite hiking trail within Great River Bluffs Campground and it ends in a jaw-dropping view!
The entire hike is lovely but the end point really makes this hike worthwhile.
Riverview Trail at
John A. Latsch State Park
Don’t let the 300+ stairs prevent you from going to this view point. It’s an upward hike but honestly, it’s not too bad. You can do it and the views are totally worth it!
This park is about 15 minutes outside of downtown Winona but this hike makes the visit totally worth it!
Even if you only go to the first two look outs, you’ll be glad you went. And the photos are sure to turn out great.
And this trail is extra spectacular in the fall!
Lake Winona
Walk the entire lake for gorgeous views from every direction.
One of my favorite spots on the lake is the view looking up at Sugar Loaf Bluff!
Pickwick Mill
This is both a museum and a historic mill.
Anyone can visit free of charge but to go through the museum is just $5 for adults and $3 for kids. (Cash or check only!)
Garvin Heights Overlook
Even if you’re not a hiker, you can enjoy these views no problem! Just type “Garvin Heights Park” into your GPS because there is a parking lot up top!
This is a great place to come for sunset.
However if you want to enjoy it without other people around, try coming in the morning as well!
My thoughts: I share these locations not just because I want you to enjoy taking photos around these beautiful spots but because I hope it inspires you to go hiking, connect with nature, spend time outdoors or plan a trip with your loved ones! Instagram can be a powerful tool because photos inspire people to book a trip. I hope you go hiking or camping because you saw a photo on Instagram but then wound up loving it for reasons entirely unrelated to taking a photo! There’s no better place to enjoy the outdoors than Winona in the summertime, enjoy!
