Voyager Campervans Review

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, I began looking for a way to travel that would still allow me to abide with social distancing orders. And with the majority of hotels, restaurants and overnight campsites closed for the rest of the month, a road trip in a campervan was the perfect solution!

So my sister and I headed up Minnesota’s North Shore for 3 days and 2 nights with Voyager Campervans.

And did we think it was worthwhile? Absolutely. We had the time of lives.

Voyager Campervans Review: Minny V3

The first decision you’ll need to make is which van you want to rent for your trip! We went with the Minny V3.

This campervan has a couch which easily flips into a large, comfortable bed. There is a fully equipped cooking area with a solar-powered fridge and sink.

We found the Minny V3 incredibly easy to drive. It’s much smaller than an RV yet the bed and front seat are still very spacious. And while some of the windows are conveniently boarded up for privacy, there is a back up camera which assists in smoothly pulling in and out of parking spaces.

As soon as you book your trip, Voyager Campervans will send you a confirmation email. Attached you will find everything you need to know about how to use your van.

But don’t worry, pretty much everything was very self-explanatory and after a quick tour, we had all the information we needed to feel comfortable using our van. There was nothing too complicated or sophisticated and if you needed a reminder (for example, how to switch the lights on in the back) you could find the information in the welcome packet that was emailed to you.

Voyager Campervan Things To Note:

  • You get 250 miles a day included (averaged out over your trip!) Miles driven over that amount cost you an extra $.25. But unless you plan on driving excessively long distances, you should be fine. We didn’t even come close to driving 250 miles a day! Often you will have a long drive to start but then once you arrive in your general destination, you will be driving shorter distances between sites.
  • A security deposit of $200 will be charged to the credit card on file 2 days prior to your pick-up.
  • Dogs are able to come along for the ride at no extra cost! How great is that?!
  • Multiple drivers can take the wheel! Just send in a copy of the driver’s licenses, that’s it.
  • Free roadside assistance included. Whether you get a flat tire, lock your keys in the van or a battery dies, Voyager Campervans has you covered. We felt super safe on the road knowing we could call if anything went wrong.

Pros & Cons of Renting A Van

Pros: You have a little home on wheels! So you have everything with you on your adventure. After a hike, come back to the van and cook up some lunch or change out of sweaty clothes. Your fridge stays cold even when the van is off so come back for a cool beverage on a hot day. Plus everything is guaranteed to stay dry if it rains (unlike camping).

Pros
  • Easy to drive
  • Comfortably fits two
  • Kitchen was easy to use
  • More affordable than a hotel
  • Bed was very comfortable
  • Staff was super professional & friendly
  • You can leave your own car parked at the Voyager Campervan rental site during your trip
  • You can add unlimited miles for just $12 a day & additional insurance for $12 a day!
  • Van was fully equipped with backup camera, USB ports, air fresheners & an AUX plug in
  • The fridge stayed very cold overnight even when the van wasn’t running so we could easily travel with perishables
  • You can charge your phone & electronics over night even when the van is off!

Cons: With the Minny V3 you’ll have to set the bed up every night. (Which truly takes no more than 5 minutes!) The van is small and easy to drive (which we loved!) but it does mean you won’t be able to stand up fully inside the van. This didn’t bother us but it’s good to note. Sometimes it might be easier to go change in a campground bathroom or at a rest stop etc.

Don’t forget to pack:

  • Bug Spray
  • Quick Drying Towel: if you plan to be living out of the van for more than a few days, you’ll want a dry towel!
  • Dry Shampoo: you might be washing your hair less than usual so bring along some dry shampoo
  • AUX cord: cue up some road trip jams or a new podcast, the vans are modern and equipped with AUX plugins
  • Plenty of road trip snacks!
Overall, we were totally blown away by Voyager Campervans!

My honest review? I can’t say enough good things about this company. From the moment we received our reservation (with such detailed information!) to the moment we brought our van back from the road trip, the company was super professional, helpful and friendly.

The vans are in great condition, very new & incredibly clean. Ours smelled super fresh as well.

I can’t recommend a van life road trip enough! Have fun exploring and if you need ideas for an adventure in Minnesota with your van, check out these articles:

I just found this review, and it’s very helpful. I’m just now considering renting a Voyager to help me decide whether I want to buy one for my trip from Florida to Alaska. Your pros and cons include many of my own concerns, so that’s great! Thanks!
