But if you’re also a book lover, then a stay here should be on your bucket list.

History Comes To Life
This upscale accommodation was built in 1884 at the height of the Minnesota logging boom and now has been renovated with seven individual suites and two bedchambers.
Large draped curtains, beautifully detailed stained glass windows and splendid marble bathrooms fill the boutique bed and breakfast.
You will feel more like you’re traveling Europe than small town Minnesota.
Each Room Tells A Story
Ask the wonderfully knowledgeable property manager Larry for a tour! He will point out all sort of unique and fun tidbits around the property.
Below is a photo of Lord Byron. One of the women pictured is his wife. And the others? Yep. Those are his mistresses. Amazing how they could all sit for a portrait drawing together, ha!
Rivertown Inn is full of interesting details that will delight and surprise you at every turn.
The Oscar Wilde Suite
My jaw dropped when I walked in the Oscar Wilde suite at Rivertown Inn.
Such exquisite attention to detail! His works line the shelf. His photo rests on the mantle. And his biography detailing his colorful life can be found in a binder on the desk.
Chandeliers hang from the ceiling and the bed is designed in the most beautiful and interesting way.
The Murder On The Orient Express Suite
Step through the grand wooden doors and into Agatha Christie’s world of train cars, murder and mystery.
It’s luxurious and filled with references of her great novel throughout the suite.
Can you spot the train conductor’s hat?
The Jane Austen Suite
Let your Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy fantasy play out in this thoughtfully decorated suite that perfectly captures the feeling of a Jane Austen novel.
Delicate fabrics, spring colors and luxury touches line the walls of this charming room.
My favorite part? The impressive stained glass window in the walk-in shower. How unique!

The Sherlock Holmes Suite
While the suite celebrates the Scottish writer Arthur Conan Doyle, it really puts a focus on his most famous work, Sherlock Holmes.
A map of London sprawls across the bed while shelves beside the fireplace are filled with Doyle’s work.
This room has its own private balcony overlooking English-inspired gardens as well.
The Alice in Wonderland Bedchamber
“Best known for his books Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and Through the Looking-Glass, Carroll would certainly be amused by this whimsical bedchamber tucked under the eaves on the third floor of the inn.”
While this smaller bedchamber might fall more in your price range than a major suite onsite, it certainly has the same remarkable attention for detail as the other rooms of the house.
Keep your eyes peeled for all sorts of pocket watches, vintage Queen of Hearts playing cards and top hats suitable for a Mad Hatter!
Luxury Bathrooms: Whirlpools Tubs & Steam Showers
Don’t think because the house was built in the 1800’s that the bathrooms or amenities won’t be up to date.
The whirlpool tubs are the perfect place to unwind with a glass of wine.
And the showers are anything but average.
In the Oscar Wilde suite, you’ll have a beautifully tiled walk-in steam shower.
Extravagant Bed Chambers
Grand 4 poster canopy beds, beautifully detailed bed frames from Italy, the softest sheets I have ever slept on…. there is a lot of luxurious comforts in each and every room.
No matter which author you select for your reservation, the bed chambers are extravagant!
Luxurious 3 Course Breakfast
If the weather is nice, you can enjoy your 3-course breakfast prepared by a private chef out on the beautiful wrap around porch.
In the winter, enjoy the splendid dining area inside. It is truly extravagant.
And for those of you on a romantic getaway or honeymoon, you can also choose to have your breakfast delivered directly to your room. Say hello to breakfast in bed!
