Wisconsin Dells 3 Day Itinerary For Adults
If you’re like me, then you might have thought Wisconsin Dells was only a popular destination for families with kids.
The area is well- known for waterparks, family activities and theme parks. Like many Midwestern families, my parents had taken my sisters and I to the Wisconsin Dells when we were young.
What I found on my return visit over 20 years later was an incredible destination for adult travelers as well.
If you’re looking for a fun weekend getaway, here’s the perfect 3 day itinerary for Wisconsin Dells!
Where To Stay: Sundara Inn & Spa
This adults-only spa resort is the perfect place to stay during your visit to Wisconsin Dells.
Tucked in a 26-acre pine forest just outside of downtown, Sundara Inn & Spa is so much more than just a hotel. It’s an oasis with culinary classes, bath rituals, walking paths, swim up pools, massages, private hot tubs & so more much.
It was named one of the Top 5 Resort Hotels in the Midwest in the 2018 Travel + Leisure magazine’s annual World’s Best readers’ choice awards.
It is easily one of my favorite places I have stayed during my travels. It’s a little bit of a splurge but completely worth it if you take advantage of all the classes & amenities onsite.
Your stay includes includes:
- Access to all the pools & hot tubs
- A self guided bath ritual
- Culinary classes
- Mixology classes
- Yoga & meditation classes
- Walking trails and more!
Important to note: Sundara Inn is a technology free spa.
*I was granted special permission to take photos to share with all of you but in order to achieve the oasis of tranquility, there are no cell phones allowed in the common spaces.
Day 1
- Check in at Sundara Inn & Spa
- Purifying bath ritual & swimming at your hotel
- Drinks & live music at Grateful Shed
- Late night eats at Brat House
Purifying Bath Ritual at Sundara Inn & Spa
Once you arrive at Sundara Inn & Spa, there are so many things to do that you may never want to leave the hotel. We could have easily spent all three days just on the property and never have left!
After you check in, go explore the property. Then begin with the self-guided purifying bath ritual and end with a swim in the infinity pool.
Everyone walks around in the comfy robes and sandals that are provided to you upon check-in. Ahhhhh, so comfy!
Drinks & live music at Grateful Shed
When you’re done having a swim at the hotel, get ready to go into town for the night head to Grateful Shed, just a short 7 minute drive from your hotel!
This place wound up being my favorite food spot in all of Wisconsin Dells! The atmosphere is lively and this would be a great starting point for a night out with friends.
It is actually food truck park inside a warehouse! There is a truck for tacos, one for grilled cheese, another for wings etc.
During the summer they have live music and events. It’s also a full service bar and one of the funnest places in town! You can check the schedule of events here.
I only listed it on the itinerary once but we actually went back again the next day for lunch since it was such a favorite!
Late night eats at Brat House
If you’re there during a weekday or off season, you might struggle to find late night eats, epecially if you’re bar hopping and need a bite. I recommend hitting up the Brat House.
The bar is a fun atmosphere and their kitchen is open later than all the other restaurants.
Day 2
- Yoga or meditation at Sundara Spa
- Hike East Bluff Trail at Devils Lake State Park
- Go for a swim in Devils Lake
- Wine tasting and live music at Balanced Rock Winery
Yoga or Meditation at Sundara Inn & Spa
Take advantage of the morning yoga or meditation classes to start your day! They are free and included in your stay.
You can also choose from a guided hike or any other number of wellness classes that Sundara Inn offers.
Hike East Bluff Trail at Devils Lake State Park
This Wisconsin state park was a real highlight of our visit!
If you plan to hike the full trail, allow 3-4 hours. However many great overviews happen early in the hike, so if you don’t have much time, it’s still worth going!
Wisconsin State Park Pass
You will need a Wisconsin state park pass to enter the park. You can purchase it upon arrival. It’s a sticker that you’ll place in your windshield.
It’s $13 a day for WI plates & $16 for a day with out of state plates. But I recommend getting the annual pass: $28 for a year with WI plates & $38 for anyone out of state.
To find East Bluff Trail:
Enter the park, buy your window sticker, drive past the first set of parking lots and go over the train tracks. Take the first quick right. There is a parking lot right at the trailhead, just follow the signs.
It’s an easy hike and the views do not disappoint!
Go for a swim in Devils Lake
If you’re there is the summer months, be sure to cool off after your hike in the stunning Devils Lake.
They have kayaks you can rent upon arrival. Check out the park’s website here.
Wine Tastings & Live Music at Balanced Rock Winery
This winery is located in Baraboo, Wisconsin & is approximately 20 minutes from downtown Wisconsin Dells.
The prices are great, you can get a whole bottle of wine for just $15!
They have live music on Wednesdays & Friday throughout the summer from 6-8pm. You can check the schedule here.
Balanced Rock Winery also does tastings and flights. Just note, they close by 8pm so plan to get there in enough time to enjoy the food, music and drinks!
Day 3
- Scenic Upper Dells Boat Tour with Dells Boats
- Hike at Mirror Lake State Park
- Feed & pet the deer at the Deer Park
Scenic Upper Dells Boat Tour with Dells Boats
Although it was a rainy day when we did our tour, it was still a lot of fun and the views are spectacular!
The boat will stop twice & give you the chance to get out and walk through some of the iconic landmarks like Witches Gulch.
Bring your camera & enjoy the scenery. These rocky cliff sides are what first put Wisconsin Dells on the map!
The guides we had were super fun and very knowledgeable.
Hike at Mirror Lake State Park
Unfortunately, we had a lot of rain on the third day of our trip so we passed on hiking at Mirror Lake State Park and instead opted for a culinary class at Sundara Inn & Spa.
However, the hikes at Mirror Lake State Park came highly recommended to us so if you have the opportunity, I suggest including this on your itinerary as well.
Feed & Pet the Deer at the Deer Park
If you’re looking for a fun afternoon activity, you can stop by and feed the deer at the Wisconsin Dells Deer Park.
Buy some corn or crackers and watch the deer gather around you!
Admission is $14.
